2012 Buckle Awards

The Rules: ANY Film released in an Australian cinema in 2012 + any films I have seen at a festival or via screener that have not had a general release. This is a HUGE list of films to select from, but doesn't include some of the U.S 2012 releases (Life of Pi, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, The Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln) not yet released in Australian cinemas.

*There are two exceptions: MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and A SEPARATION - released February 2 and March 1 respectively - were considered in last year's awards because I watched them well prior to their release date and included them amongst my 2011 releases.*

As a result of the large volume of films, there will be six slots for each category and the winner marked in BOLD.

Now, it is very likely I have forgotten to include some worthy nominees, but when reflecting on an entire year of film it is hard just narrowing the categories down to six. Thoughts?

  1. Pretty strong choices in almost every category. Holy Motors is currently in my Top 3 for 2012 but haven't decided on its placing and is extraordinary. A sort of once in a life time film. Glad to see Shame feature so prominently too.

  2. I haven't seen Holy Motors yet, but judging by what I've heard and your awards, it just keeps moving up my watch list. I can't argue with your pick of The Master. I had a mixed reaction to it; I greatly admire the themes that PT Anderson is tackling and the strong work from the actors, yet I didn't love the experience watching it. I think it will take a second viewing before I really figure out what I think. Shame was also a really strong movie (I saw it in 2011) with remarkable work from Michael Fassbender.

  3. Awesome awards! Fassbender beats Lavant for actor? That really surprised me, but it speaks to how much you admired Fassbender's work. Great list!

  5. Sad to see The Hunt lose out so much but even more intrigued about Holy Motors now!

  6. I don't share your enthusiasm for Holy Motors (I wish I did!) but I was glad to see someone more loving Your Sister's Sister! It's been a wonderful year of movies, which is reflected by your list.
