'The Lone Ranger' - First Look Image

Courtesy of Disney, here is a first look image at The Lone Ranger, a Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films Production. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski, The Lone Ranger tells the story of Tonto (Johnny Depp), a spirit warrior on a personal quest who unintentionally joins forces in a fight for justice with John Reid (Armie Hammer), a lawman who has been transformed into a masked avenger. The Lone Ranger is scheduled for release in Australia in May 2013. What are your thoughts on this project?

  1. My first thought is, "a white man playing a native American in a Hollywood film made in the 21st century? Even if he is Johnny Depp, who thought that was a good idea?" Even in the less sensitive 1950s, the TV version of Tonto was played by an actual native actor (as was the case with the serials from the even less sensitive 1930s). Unless they're going to rewrite the character?

  2. The Lone Ranger and Tonto, riding through a valley. Suddenly, a bunch on Injuns appear in front of them, baying for blood. The fearless duo turn round and head south down the valley - more Injuns cut 'em off, hemming them in. 'Well Tonto, good buddy', The Lone Ranger says, guess this is the end of us. You've been my faithful friend forever; I'll miss you'.
    Tonto replies 'f**k you, paleface'.

  3. I am not sure about this look for Tonto. To me it looks like Capt. Jack with a dead bird on his head.

  4. Paleface! Hahaha. Hilarious, Colin. Agreed, Depp is a horrific idea for this film. Not because he is a terrible actor, but because it's just a terrible idea.

  5. Well at least it looks better than how Depp looks in Dark Shadows...

  6. I'm a little put off by Depp as Tonto and Hammer doesn't really look the part but I'm certainly not opposed to the idea of them or this movie. They're good actors and hopefully their chemistry will make a stale awkward photo like this work. Plus I think that Gore, despite the quality of the script, makes good movies. Hopefully this will be a better Western than Cowboys & Aliens.
