Monday Links (18/07)

Despite only seeing Oranges and Sunshine and Deathly Hallows Part 2 at the cinema I had quite a busy week. I made up for the ordeal of watching Battle: Los Angeles and The Expendables with screenings of Talk to Her and Animal House. Also re-watched Rango on DVD and grew to appreciate Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. I hated that film on my initial viewing.

Check out some of the weeks top articles (after the jump):

Easily the best article I have read this week is by James Blake Ewing at Cinema Sights. He discusses Why He Doesn't Rate Films. While you're there, check out his thoughts on The Third Man, the recent MOTM, which was the fuel for some quite entertaining discussion on latest LAMBCast

Of course, with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 come a rush of write ups. Several to check out are Ruth's @ Let's be Splendid About This, Steve's @ 1001plus, Anders' @ Cut Print Review, Aiden's @ Moviefone, Sam's @ Duke and the Movies, Tom Clift's @ Movie Reviews by Tom Clift and Mad Hatter @ Dark of the Matinee.

This week Hatter and Simon tackle David Fincher on this week's episode of the The Film Locker.

Anna from 5plitReel reviews Lars Von Trier's new film, Melancholia. It's a great review!

CS @ Big Thoughts From A Small Mind defends Short Round and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which has never been my least favourite of the Indy 'Trilogy'. He also reviews Bridesmaids.

Blake Griffin @ Bitchin' Film Reviews interviews the director of Tabloid, Errol Morris

Dan @ Dan the Man's Movie Reviews was a big admirer of The Blair Witch Project

Anna @ Defiant Success asks other bloggers about their Most Anticipated Releases of 2011.

Sam  @ Duke and the Movies also reviewed Robert Altman's The Player (which he gave a perfect rating).

Custard @ FrontRoomCinema is a great writer. This week he reviewed Horrible Bosses.

Alex @ Film Forager gives an excellent write up on La Dolce Vita, one of the all-time great films.
