Poster for 'The Ides of March' and Trailer for 'Drive'

What a great poster for The Ides of March, George Clooney's new film starring Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti. I have been trying to resist the trailer. Want to see it in the cinema.

On the topics of Mr Gosling and resisting trailers, one I caved in and watched was Drive. I am now more excited than ever to see the film on the August 6th Closing Night at MIFF. Check it out. It's badass!

Certainly two films I am looking forward to. What are your thoughts on these potential Oscar candidates?

  1. Is this the year of the Gos or what? Drive is my most anticipated movie for the rest of the year and The Ides of March certainly looks like Oscar-bait all the way.

  2. This seems like a good year for Mr. Gosling. Hell, I think he should've gotten nominated for Blue Valentine at the Oscars and was my pick for Best Actor that year.

I hope gets more love. Who would've thought that a kid who was in the Mickey Mouse Club with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera would turn out to be one of the best actors working today?

  3. I was going to say, he's the man! Then i jumped on AM and saw Sam's review of Crazy, Stupid Love and saw that it stars Ryan Gosling (?) Oh well, he's still the man. I can't wait for DRIVE!

  4. Yeah, I agree Steven, he definitely should have been nominated for Blue Valentine! Perhaps, with top performances in both films, he'll feature in consideration again this year. I sense that Drive is going to be a tour-de-force!

  5. Gosling is such a brilliant actor. I mean he managed to make that god-awful Notebook sort of bearable, no mean feat.
And now finally he's getting stuff like Drive and Ides of March! So friggin excited. And yes he should have been nominated for an Oscar for Blue Valentine. I, for one, thought he was much better than Michelle Williams in the film.

  6. You know I've never seen The Notebook, but I really liked his character in Fracture, which wasn't a great film, overall! But Half Nelson and Blue Valentine are very very good performances. His dues are not far away!

  7. I wanna see Drive so so so so so much! But mainly for Carey Mulligan...she looks like she has an interesting character. But Gosling is awesome, I'm so glad that he is getting to be pretty big around here!

  8. I keep seeing this poster everywhere and it definitely does not disappoint!!

Gosling is such a dude. Everyone loves him...I await for the film that fudges up his career!! (such a pessimist)

  10. Me likey.

Custard is getting all pessimist-like. I think Gosling is going to do a few misses, but he's got great variety, to an extent that he can pull off almost any role, even a mediocre one better than most young actors out there today.

  11. I agree. I think there is bound to be a couple of roles that are sub-par, but I have even heard some pretty good things about Crazy, Stupid Love. As for the other two, well, I have no doubt they will be great films :-p He will be a major presence in Hollywood for years to come. How old is he? 30? Crazy!
